Kumari Vibhuti Nayak obtained her PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Patna, in 2018 and her PhD research focussed on culture and health nexus in shaping the perception of health and health seeking behaviour among tribal female adolescents. Her Master’s degree is in Anthropology and her research interest includes examining tribal health, social and cultural determinants of health and decipher the intersectionality of caste, class, culture, gender, geographical location and conflict, in shaping the health outcomes of adolescents, influence of gender based violence as well.

She previously secured WHO-SEARO region research fellowship which was coordinated by PHFI (Public Health Foundation of India) Bangalore and UNU-IIGH (United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health) Malaysia. She is currently associated as Co-PI in a research project regarding socio-psychological analysis of tribal youth in communication, hesitation and participation in extra-curricular activities, sponsored by Tribal Welfare Research Institute, Government of Jharkhand. The research project would examine how tribal students experience communication problem in formal education system which creates hesitation within self and restrict them from participating in extra-curricular activities.
