Objectives

 M. Phil. in Social Sciences 2010-2012 will run from August 2010 to July 2012. This inter-disciplinary Programme is affiliated to Jadavpur University, Kolkata. After the completion of the Programme students will obtain Jadavpur University’s degree, M. Phil. in Social Sciences.

Doctoral  Programme at the Centre

The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta, is a premier resaerch institute in eastern India that emphasises inter-disciplinary scholarship.  Since its inception, it has  accepted scholars wishing to pursue their PhDs with specific faculty advisors at the Centre. Applicants may currently choose from any of the following areas of work: Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology/Social Anthropology, Development Studies, Women Studies, and Cultural Studies, and Environmental Studies.

 Selected candidates will have to carry out research under the supervision of a member of the CSSSC faculty and will have to register for a PhD degree with a recognized  university in India within six months of joining the programme. Affiliation with Jadavpur University for the purpose of granting degrees is likely to be recognized shortly.  Doctoral students thus far have enrolled for  their degrees from Burdwan, Calcutta,  Jadavpur. and Kalyani Universities in West Bengal and from Delhi University, Delhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

        This is to announce that the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta will admit up to 20  

         Ph.D scholars instead of 12 (as announced earlier) for its Ph.D Programme.
